vs Square Appointments

Square Appointments alternative. A real website. 0% markup.

Square Appointments is great if you live inside the Square ecosystem (POS hardware, retail, Square Online). It is a payments company that happens to have a scheduler. BookReady is a designed booking website. Same booking and deposits underneath, but the website is the product, not the bolt-on. Here is how the two compare.

Short answer

Which one should you pick.

Square Appointments is the right choice if you need full POS hardware (chip readers, registers), heavy retail with inventory, or run multiple locations. BookReady is the better choice if you sell appointment time as your primary business, want a designed website included, and want to pay 0% on transactions instead of 2.6% in-person.

BookReady wins

When BookReady is the right call.

Designed website included

Stop running Square Appointments + Square Online together.

Square Appointments gives you a booking widget. To get a real website, you add Square Online ($0-$29/mo), which has generic templates that look like every other Square Online site. BookReady gives you Velvet Theory, The Fade Room, Opaline, or one of four others, designed for beauty, with the booking already wired in. One product, one experience, your brand on every page.

0% platform markup

Save the 2.6% per appointment.

Square charges 2.6% + 10 cents on in-person bookings and 2.9% + 30 cents online. BookReady takes 0%, you just pay Stripe processing (2.9% + 30 cents online, 2.7% + 5 cents in-person via tap-to-pay). On $5,000/mo in bookings, you save roughly $50-130/mo, depending on the in-person vs online mix.

Beauty by default

A site built for how beauty actually books.

Galleries with before-and-after toggles for fades, lash sets, nail looks. Service durations that match the trade (color processing, fills, full sets). Deposits sized for hour-plus services. Booking flow built thumb-first for Instagram bio links. Square Appointments works for beauty, but it is built to work for everything, and that shows.

Free same-day migration

We do the move for you.

Square Appointments migration is self-serve. Export, re-import, hope your client list lands cleanly. BookReady handles the entire migration for you, free, usually the same day, including services, hours, staff, client list, and standing recurring bookings.

Square Appointments wins

When Square Appointments is the right call.

No platform is right for every business. Here is where Square Appointments is genuinely stronger today.

You sell retail product heavily

Square has the full POS stack.

If retail (skincare, hair products, candles, jewelry) is a meaningful part of your monthly revenue, Square has chip readers, register hardware, live inventory tracking, and a payments infrastructure built for it. BookReady has Stripe service checkout. A basic product catalog ships late 2026 but will not replace a register.

You run multiple locations

Square is multi-location native.

If you run 2+ physical locations under one brand, Square has multi-location reporting, per-location pricing, and centralized inventory built in. BookReady multi-location support is on the roadmap for Q1 2027. For one location, this does not matter. For three, it does.

You want $0 entry

Square has a real free tier.

Square One (Square Appointments Free) is genuinely free for single-location, single-staff use. You pay only the transaction fees. BookReady starts at $15/mo. For a brand-new solo business with very low volume, Square's free tier costs less upfront. The break-even is roughly $600/mo in bookings, after which BookReady is cheaper AND includes the website.

Switching from Square Appointments

We will move you. Free, same day.

Your Square Appointments export gives us your services, hours, staff, and client list. We rebuild it inside BookReady and walk you through the new template. Usually the same day, included on every plan, no setup fee. You stay on Square Appointments until you decide to flip your Instagram bio link.

Questions

The short answers about switching.

Can I move my Square client list to BookReady?

Yes. Square exports your customer directory and appointment history as CSV. We import all of it on your behalf during free migration.

What happens to my Square Online site if I migrate?

It stays live as long as you keep your Square account active. Most studios run both in parallel for a week, then disable Square Online (or downgrade) and use BookReady's designed site as their main website.

Do I still need Stripe if I leave Square?

BookReady uses Stripe for payments. You set up a Stripe account (free, takes about 10 minutes), and that handles transaction processing. Your Square Stripe-equivalent disappears with Square.

What about my Square Reader hardware?

Square Reader works with the Square app. If you keep Square Appointments for in-person POS and use BookReady for online booking + website, that is a valid setup. Most beauty pros either commit fully to BookReady (Stripe tap-to-pay covers most in-person) or fully to Square. We support both.

Does BookReady have inventory tracking?

Not today. Basic product catalog ships late 2026 but will not replace Square's full inventory system. If you sell physical product heavily, stay on Square Appointments for that side and use BookReady for the website + services side.

Will my Square Loyalty program transfer?

No. Loyalty programs are platform-specific and do not migrate. BookReady's loyalty system is on the roadmap for late 2026. If loyalty is a major part of your retention strategy, stay on Square or use a third-party loyalty tool that integrates with both.

How long does the migration actually take?

Most studios are live on BookReady within 24 hours. The migration team handles services, hours, staff, and client list import. You handle reviewing the new site and switching your bio link.

What if I want to keep Square for POS and use BookReady for booking?

Yes, that works. Many beauty pros run Square Register for in-person retail + BookReady for online booking + designed website. The two platforms do not conflict, they just handle different parts of the business.
